Nurture

At Newick, we are dedicated to supporting all of our children to reach their full individual potential. Our Nurture provision provides a welcoming, safe environment where children can explore their emotional and social wellbeing, learn about themselves, develop and grow. We seek to nurture individuals and to give our pupils the aspiration and confidence to participate, engage, appreciate and take fascination in the world of opportunities around them.

The Six Principles of Nurture are embedded at Newick in our whole school approach. Alongside this we have a designated Nurture room where children can go in small groups or 1:1 for support. The sessions are fun and informative, using activities and resources designed to motivate, engage and support the children. The children also have access to our sensory room. Our Nurture sessions typically last for either a morning or an afternoon and are reviewed termly. The skills our children develop can then be taken with them into the mainstream classroom.

We have regular visits from Mrs Oliver's guinea pigs and have even had a Breakout Morning with her ponies!

National Nurturing Schools Programme

At Newick we are in the process of becoming an accredited National Nurturing School through the NurtureUK awards scheme. You can read more about this here: The National Nurturing Schools Award (NNSA) - nurtureuk

The award will recognise the work that all staff, across the entire school, do every day to ensure childrens' social, emotional and mental health needs are met. In addition to the whole school approach, Mrs Oliver runs Nurture groups and drop ins across the week, and has completed her nurture group practitioner training (SCQF) which provides practitioners with a comprehensive understanding of nurture principles, attachment theory and neuroscience, and the Boxall Profile®.
