PE Skills Knowledge & Progression at Newick

PE Planning for Schools | Subscribe Today! | The PE Hub

At Newick, we follow a highly regarded scheme of work from The PE Hub. This provides a hub of high quality planning and resources, enabling teachers to deliver PE lessons at an excellent standard, whilst ensuring a clear progression of skills and knowledge in the subject. Children begin by learning key sporting skills and physical development in Early Years and Key Stage 1. In Key Stage 2, children then move onto learning and taking part in specific sports. At Newick, we regularly take part in local competitions against other schools and we like to be well prepared! We offer many sporting clubs, professionally coached, including: Football, Tennis, Netball, Karate and Ballet.

Awards

This Year we were judged externally by the afPE (Association for Physical Education) to achieve the Quality Mark; a prestigious award that evidences the strength and quality of Physical Education, School Sport and Physical Activity (PESSPA) in our school. We now benefit from a raised profile of the subject and the school, both locally and nationally and it promotes the outstanding work that is being undertaken on a daily basis. Go Newick!!

In the summer term, we had a visit from three inspectors who assessed our ability to provide excellent opportunities to support the following four categories of learning:

  • Healthy eating
  • Physical activity
  • Emotional health and wellbeing
  • PSHE.

They spent the day with us talking to staff, governors, families and children to find out more about the culture and opportunities we offer to support personal development here at Newick. We are incredibly proud to say we have now received our award for this.  The report was so positive and they talked a lot about sharing our practice with other schools. There are only a handful of schools that have the Excellence Award and we are one of them!!
