Courageous Advocacy

In May 2025 we had an 'Odd Shoes for Odisha Day.' The pupils decided to raise money for the Leprosy Mission after a moving Collective Worship from Wendy at The Leprosy Mission. The School Council chose a date, and decided to do a sponsored odd shoe day having learned about the plight of families struggling with this disease even in 2025.

This was our response from Wendy after the event:

'Lovely to hear from you and thank you so much for raising a fantastic amount for the families living in the leprosy colonies of Odisha.

Your £462.40 will make a real difference and will enable 2 community farms to be planted. These farms will be full of nutritious vegetables and fruit trees and will provide sustainable healthy food. It will also pay for 2 pairs of goats which will provide milk for 2 families, so thank you for the difference your kindness will make!

20 pupils earned a special wristbands and 17 pupils earned a keyring for raising over £10! All the children received a Leprosy Mission bug for taking part.

Parker Rolfe got a special award for raising an incredible £42! He had a special copy of the Bela book in recognition of his efforts and as a reminder of the children in India that he has helped.

Thanks again for your incredible efforts and for your love and compassion towards children in India living in the colonies of Odisha. Because of you, lives will be changed!

RE Curriculum

At Newick School we feel it is important to prepare pupils for life in a 21st Century world, and it is clear that religion and belief play a central role in local and global affairs. Religious education provides an ideal opportunity to explore matters of religions and non-religious beliefs, to find out what matters most to people in a wide range of traditions, and to discern what is of value for themselves as they develop their own ideas and ways of living.

From September 2022 we have been following the East Sussex RE Syllabus (2022-27). The syllabus offers teachers the opportunity to plan and to deliver lessons which are informative, engaging and challenging and which will allow pupils to gain a developing understanding of the range of religious and non-religious world views studied, over a period of time.
